Runoff Management GrantsApplication Forms and InstructionsOverviewNonpoint pollution is the primary threat to the health of Wisconsin's waterways. Because the best way to control nonpoint pollution is at its source, the DNR strongly supports local leadership and participation in pollution control. The DNR offers financial assistance for local efforts to control nonpoint source pollution. These grants support both the implementation of source-area controls to prevent runoff contamination and the installation of treatment systems to remove pollutants from runoff. The main goal of these nonpoint grants is to improve the quality of Wisconsin's water resources by decreasing the impacts of nonpoint pollution.
Financial assistance for local pollution-control efforts is available through various DNR loan and grant programs. Although the DNR will not be certain of its budget for funding these grants until after the applications are due, the DNR will accept applications in anticipation of funds being available. Please keep this uncertainty about funding in mind when deciding whether or not to prepare an application. EPA CatalogEPA Catalog of Federal Funding Sources for Watershed ProtectionThe EPA Catalog of Federal Funding Sources for Watershed Protection [exit DNR] is online as an easy to use, searchable Web site. The Web site provides information for watershed practitioners and others on 84 Federal funding sources that may be available to help fund various watershed-related projects.Milwaukee Streambank InventoryMilwaukee Streambank Inventory- First Showcase EventMilwaukee County Environmental Services Department (LCD) used DNR’s Urban Stormwater Grant funds, a DATCP allocation, and local funding to create a streambank inventory database which has been distributed to all Milwaukee municipalities and local libraries. The purpose of this tool is to enable additional grant funding and projects from partnering agencies and organizations. This database tool contains valuable information about the condition of streams and rivers in Milwaukee County. With one click of the mouse, one can zoom into an area, then a neighborhood, and finally one of thousands of actual pictures of the Milwaukee waterways. Then you can query projects based on cost, environmental impact, and other factors to pick just the right project that the group or entity wants to work on. This project demonstrated the creative use of combined funds to reach out for more project development and partnership ventures to achieve critical conservation goals.Contact InformationFor more information about this page, please contact: Kathy Thompson608-267-7568 Last Revised: Friday October 02 2009
