Water Division Objective:

Rich calcareous fen bordering Chaffee Creek. Chaffee Creek Fishery Area, Marquette County.

To protect drinking water and groundwater resources for both human and ecosystem health.

Wisconsin's vast array of surface and groundwater provides a wealth of resources for drinking, recreation, and industry. Protecting drinking water and groundwater spans multiple agencies, programs and jurisdictions in Wisconsin. Yet it is this multi-faceted objective to both protect the health and safety of our citizenry and maintain and enhance the cleanliness and availability of groundwater for long-term ecosystem health that provides the Water Program's fourth objective.

  • Protect public health and safety, and the state’s groundwater resources, by ensuring wells are constructed according to Department regulations.
  • Protect public health and safety by ensuring public water systems are properly operated and maintained.
  • Protect public health and safety by reviewing community water system facilities prior to construction.
  • Protect public health and safety by ensuring that all public water systems meet drinking water quality standards.
  • Protect public health and safety by ensuring that all public water systems are sampled at the appropriate frequency.
  • Protect public health and safety, and the state’s groundwater resources, by reviewing plans for high capacity wells prior to construction.
