Volunteer Naturalists

Volunteer naturalists primarily assist employee naturalists with programs on cultural and natural history, guided hikes, school groups and special events. They may also lead programs, hikes and events when appropriate.

As a representative of the Department of Natural Resources, a naturalist:

• Hands out literature and program schedules.
• Answers questions about the natural world, exhibits, property and local area.
• Assists visitors with nature center gift shop purchases (where applicable).
• Assists with nature center operations, exhibit maintenance and minor cleaning.
• Assists in restoring prairies, improving wildlife habitat, plantings and litter pick-up.
• Is alert to visitor's needs, comments, complaints, etc.
• Assists with or leads programs and events.

Naturalists are selected based on their experiences and interest in providing environmental education and/or interpretation programs. If you're interested in becoming one, submit a volunteer application.
