Ridgeway Depot Restoration

The Friends of Military Ridge State Trail [exit DNR] have restored the 60-year-old Ridgeway Depot. It is the only depot still standing from the time when Chicago and North Western passenger trains ran along the corridor.

A federal grant is paying 80 percent of the restoration cost, and the friends group is raising the rest.

An old caboose is on display next to the depot.

A sagging end of the building was raised several inches to the level of the rest, and the deteriorated roof has been replaced with modern tiles that resemble the slate originals.

The depot has three rooms: a passenger waiting room, an office, and a freight room.
