Hartman Creek State Park Conditions

Conditions as of Monday, November 17, 2008:

Fall is a wonderful time to explore Wisconsin's state parks!

Boating and Fishing

The lakes in the park are spring-fed. Perch , bluegill, and largemouth bass are the primary fish species.

Trails

All hiking, horse, off-road biking and hiking trails are open.

The horse trails will be closed November 22-30 for the deer gun season in the park. Please call ahead after that time to see if the trails (off-road biking and horse) are open, as it is all weather dependent. If we get rain or snow, then the trails will definitely close for the season until next spring.

A state trail pass is required for those persons age 16 years and older who use the horse and off-road biking trails.

We'll have a candlelight ski event Saturday, January 24, from 5 to 8 p.m., sponsored by Friends of Hartman Creek. A 1.3-mile cross-country ski trail and 1-mile hiking trail will be lighted by candles. A great way to get rid of the winter doldrums!

Camping

Only the first loop of the family campground is open, Sites 1-32 and 65-87. The shower buildings are closed for the season. Fresh drinking water is available near Site #21 in the family campground. The dump station is still open for dumping purposes, but the fresh water hose is closed until next spring.

Any firewood brought in from more than 50 miles away will be confiscated due to the potential of carrying emerald ash borers. There is now a quarantine for Ozaukee, Washington, Sheboygan and Fond du Lac counties. No firewood is allowed to be moved from any of these counties.

Camping rates are $15/night/resident and $17/night/non-resident. Electrical sites (21 and 65-87) cost $5 more per night. Reserve a campsite for 2 days to 11 months from now using the Web or by calling (888) 947-2757, TTY (800) 274-7275. Sites may be reserved for these 2008 dates:

Day Use Area

Whispering Pines day use picnic area is closed for the season and will reopen in spring 2009.

Nature

Flocks of Canada geese can be seen in the cornfields outside the park. Their familiar song usually marks the true end of summer.
