Regulatory Performance Report

In Wisconsin, we recognize our air, water, forests, fish and wildlife as natural assets that greatly contribute to our economy, our health and our quality of life.

We believe our clean environment and abundant, high-quality land and water resources are important reasons why people want to locate their families and businesses here.

To safeguard our natural assets and balance their use, the Department of Natural Resources issues environmental permits and makes environmental decisions that allow businesses to flourish while meeting standards set to protect public health and the environment.

From the time we began issuing permits and giving approvals more than three decades ago, we have greatly improved and refined our processes. In the Regulatory Performance Report that follows, you will see the improvements and changes over the last five years. The DNR is also firmly committed to examining and improving regulatory processes to eliminate unnecessary steps and give businesses and individuals more certainty about whether they need a permit, how long it will take to get one, and what steps need to be followed.

The Regulatory Performance Report contains nine major types of environmental decisions. These decisions affect air quality, solid and hazardous waste, wastewater, wetlands and waterways (Chapter 30 permits), high-capacity wells and environmental laboratory certifications. The Regulatory Performance Report will be updated quarterly to show progress towards achieving our goals.

The links below provide summary information about the processing time for the regulatory decisions including permits, licenses, certifications and approvals. Performance information can be accessed by selecting the links in the center of this page. Each page contains performance statistics, goals for performance and our progress towards achieving those goals.
