2009 marked the third year of sampling for the Beaver Creek Reserve Five County Aquatic Invasive Species Survey in Barron, Dunn, Rusk, Chippewa and Eau Claire Counties. Volunteers and staff documented numerous populations of aquatic invaders, including Chinese and banded mystery snails, rusty crayfish, curly-leaf pondweed, Eurasian water-milfoil and purple loosestrife. All data were entered in the statewide online database (SWIMS).
Approximately 920 volunteer hours were devoted to this project during summer 2009. In addition to monitoring, Beaver Creek Reserve also coordinates Clean Boats, Clean Waters watercraft inspection training and publishes a lake monitoring newsletter.
