Forestry Technician - Nurseries

We seek creative, service-oriented individuals to join a team of professional employees dedicated to protecting and enhancing our natural resources. We employ individuals who can communicate positively with a variety of customer groups.

Duties

Work outdoors in a variety of technical program support activities. Protect, develop, and maintain forest lands and their natural resources for environmental, economic, and recreational purposes. Plant, lift, sort, and package trees at state nurseries. Spray for weed and insect control. Operate, clean, and maintain equipment or vehicles and make minor repairs to vehicles, equipment, buildings, and other facilities.

Note: The state nurseries are located in Boscobel, Hayward, and Wisconsin Rapids.

Required Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of hand and power tool use and safety. Soils and turf management. Seed and nursery plant care, including seeding, fertilizing, and spraying. Nursery lifting and shipping techniques. Tree identification.

Special Requirements

Most positions will require a valid Wisconsin driver's license and pesticide applicator's license.
