Fisheries Biologist

We seek creative, service-oriented individuals interested in joining a professional team dedicated to protecting and enhancing our natural resources. We employ individuals who can communicate positively with a variety of customer groups.

Duties

Perform professional fisheries management duties to include protecting and managing fish, other aquatic biota, and their habitats. Sample fisheries populations and other components of the aquatic ecosystem; analyze data, formulate, and implement management plans; assess aquatic habitat; develop and implement stream and lake habitat mitigation, improvement, or restoration plans; review water quality, habitat, or other permits to determine effects on aquatic resources.

Required Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Fisheries biology and management principles and practices that protect and enhance the use of fisheries and other aquatic resources; aquatic ecosystem management principles and practices; creative approaches to protecting and managing aquatic ecosystems; basic personal computer skills; and effective communication skills.

Special Requirements

Most positions will require a valid Wisconsin driver's license.

Desired Training

Graduation from a college or university with major courses in the biological sciences, with emphasis on fisheries management and population dynamics, ichthyology/fisheries ecology, aquaculture/fish propagation, and limnology.
