Duties

Inspect large dams to ensure safety of life, health, and property. Direct necessary repairs and modifications of dams for timely compliance with enforcement orders, ensuring safety of dams and hazard areas downstream. Administer the dam maintenance repair, modification, abandonment, and removal aid program. Provide statewide expertise and guidance and on-site command during emergency situations where imminent dam failure threatens life or loss of property. Assist with administering the dam safety program.

Required Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Hydrology and hydraulics, including open channel hydraulics; computer science; field survey techniques; communication skills; construction techniques for structure and dams; statistics and structural analysis.

Desired Training

Bachelor's degree in environmental or civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program with relevant course work or a verified equivalent. Registration as Professional Engineer is preferred.
