Clean Air/Action Day Programs in Wisconsin

Several larger communities in Wisconsin have organized "action day" or "clean air" programs in which businesses, schools, government agencies and citizen work together to voluntarily reduce air pollution, especially when an Air Quality Watch or Air Quality Advisory has been called.

Wisconsin Partners for Clean Air

Wisconsin’s Partners for Clean Air (exit DNR) is a coalition of over 260 businesses, community organizations, schools and government agencies committed to voluntarily improving air quality. WPCA formed in 1996 after six southeastern Wisconsin counties were shown to have one of the most severe ground-level ozone problems in the United States. WPCA educates businesses and residents on how to improve air quality and reduce harmful air emissions by changing their daily habits.

Cleaner Air Faster

Cleaner Air Faster is a cooperative initiative involving the private sector, local governments and the state to retain the 8-hour ozone attainment status for counties adjacent to the ozone nonattainment region. The goal is to achieve meaningful voluntary reductions of ozone precursor emissions. These efforts will generally improve air quality, reduce the public's exposure to air pollutants and minimize the drift of ozone precursors into downwind attainment and nonattainment counties.

Active programs in Dane, Jefferson and Fond du Lac counties. Planning discussions with Brown County.
